Convert JPG to WebP in three steps

01

Choose a JPG photograph

Select, drop or paste one JPEG image up to 15 MB and 40 megapixels. Use the best original you have instead of a repeatedly compressed copy.

02

Convert the photo locally

Choose Convert image. A supported browser decodes the JPG and creates a WebP copy on your device. No conversion-server upload is needed.

03

Check the copy and download

Inspect skin, skies, fine texture and lettering, then compare file sizes. Save the individual WebP before replacing the source or leaving the page.

JPG and WebP: compare the delivered image

JPEG is a familiar photographic format, while WebP provides another encoding option for supported web destinations. Re-encoding an existing JPG does not recover the detail its earlier compression removed.

  • Compression: WebP can produce a smaller file, but a saving is not guaranteed for every JPG. Compare the actual download rather than applying a fixed percentage to the entire library.
  • Color and gradients: inspect skin, sky and subtle shading for changes. Conversion does not guarantee removal of existing banding, blocks or ringing.
  • Website performance: fewer image bytes can help delivery, but layout, image dimensions, caching and the network still matter. A format change alone does not establish a ranking, speed-score or sales increase.

Three uses for a WebP photo copy

Keep a high-quality source and evaluate a delivery copy for the destination where it will actually appear.

  • Product catalogs: test a few representative product photos, review labels and textures, and check the shop’s image pipeline before replacing a whole catalog.
  • Photography portfolios and articles: compare photos at their display size and on a phone, looking at fine detail as well as download weight.
  • Bandwidth and storage: a smaller asset can reduce transferred or stored bytes. Actual billing depends on traffic, caching and the service’s pricing; no fixed cost reduction is promised.

A local converter for one photograph

The format conversion does not require a paid AI generation run.

  • Browser processing: encoding happens on the device without a server queue. Conversion time depends on the photo and available memory.
  • No file upload: the JPG is not sent to a conversion service. This statement applies to the local converter, not a separate remote AI edit.
  • Individual downloads: process one image within 15 MB / 40 MP and save each result separately. There is no batch queue or ZIP download.
  • Separate enlargement: use Image Upscaler when you need different pixel dimensions. Its paid AI output is inferred detail, not a recovered original master.

Need a larger picture instead?

JPG-to-WebP conversion keeps width and height. If the source is too small for a display or print, consider Image Upscaler as a separate task. Review its actual dimensions and generated detail before using the result.
